Favorite Comic Artists: Frank Quitely

I’ve heard multiple people in comic shops refer to Frank Quitely as the best artist working in comics. Honestly I find it hard to disagree with them which is saying something with all of the amazing artists currently working in comics. I would say there are artists just as good as Quitely but nobody better. The man is constantly stretching the boundaries of what you can do on a page, breaking the “rules” of sequential story telling to great effect.  His partnership with writer Grant Morrison is well documented and extremely prolific, producing such comics as WE3, All-star Superman, Flex Mentallo, and more. A sad fact about Quitely is that it is becoming more and more rare to see his work on a book’s interior.

Favorite Comic Artists: Esad Ribic

So  Esad  Ribic is pretty great. I first ran into his art during Jason Aaron’s run of Thor God of Thunder. He really was a huge part of what made that book special, and when there was a fill in artist at the beginning of the Godbomb and the Arccused arcs the book suffered. Not to say the fill in artists weren’t good, I just didn’t feel they fit the book nearly as well as Ribic did and the book was still great since Aaron is one hell of a writer. Ribic fit the Thor world perfectly capturing the the fantasy and grant scope of Asgard and the other Realms. Ribic is now the artist of Marvel’s Secret Wars event and has been killing it. However the book has just been delayed so he can have more time to draw. Which I am fine with since Hickman has created a really interesting story and we all know the book will look great when it gets put out. In the end I think Ribic fits the Marvel Universe like a hand in glove.
